During the last years, we thought a lot about how we can provide the app and its extended services for a fair price. Let us give you some more insights into our thought process and reasoning behind this change and provide some clarity.
To start with the most important point: none of our users gets taken away something they have had before. That means that every feature that was unlocked by purchasing the ‘Scanbot Pro’ upgrade before the release of Scanbot 9 will stay valid and every unlocked feature will remain available.
Why did we change to a subscription-based model? The answer is quite simple. We are continuously working on offering a high-quality app that’s easy to use and delivers the best results. Besides making sure that the app is working as intended we’re also adding new features on a regular basis. This is only possible with a lot of knowledge and energy from quite a big and dedicated team, giving their best to provide you with a great mobile scanning experience. By switching to a subscription-based model, we can guarantee further continuous support for the product which we and many of our users love.
Scanbot has become much more than just a scanner. We heard from many of our users that they use Scanbot as full document manager. This is also by far the area with the most feature requests. We feel the same and will add more tools to manage your documents in the future.
We provide a lot of functionality for very little money: In the most extreme case, a user that bought Scanbot Pro in 2014 for as little as 0.99$ has enjoyed 9 fully featured major versions with over 400 internal builds of Scanbot. We believe this was quite a good deal. Unlike other developers, we keep developing Scanbot and are improving its capabilities year by year. Scanbot has only been growing so far and we intend to keep it that way. Moreover, we deliver a quality product. We don’t have ads and would never sell any user data. We value our user’s privacy and take it very seriously.
To reiterate: The number one important thing for us was that none of our users gets taken away something they had before. That means that every feature that was unlocked by purchasing the ‘Scanbot Pro’ upgrade before the release of Scanbot 9 will stay valid and every unlocked feature will remain available. You will still be able to use the text recognition, basic folders, automatic upload and so on if you unlocked it prior to Scanbot 9. On top of that, every user will get updates to support the latest iOS versions, bug fixes and the new design for free.
Just additional new features that will be released from now on will only be unlocked with the subscription. We believe that this is more than fair.
